The Jado Victorian Single Lever Kitchen Faucet with Pull-Out Spray is an expensive disappointment. I purchased this item because numerous plumbers and plumbing supply houses told me that Jado was their first choice of faucet. I can only say they must not have tried many other brands.
First, let me state that my choice of faucets was limited by the tight space in my kitchen. The bar overhang allowed for very little room when it came to the faucet lever. This faucet had a small enough footprint and a limited requirement for space in which to maneuver. Further, I liked the idea of having the sprayer incorporated into the faucet since I do not use a sprayer with any regularity. However, in retrospect, I made a huge mistake purchasing this faucet.
The operation is counterintuitive and unlike any other levered faucet I have encountered. The straight up position results in cold water; moving the lever forward results in warmer water until the lever is fully descended at which point the water is temperature is hot. However, one must also shift the lever to the right to turn the faucet on, so that for full cold the lever is moved as far right as possible and for full hot the lever is down and as far right as possible. The faucet is turned off when the lever is shifted left as far as it will go. Other lever faucets have the full hot with the lever to the left and are turned on when the lever is raised; for full cold to the right and again, the lever is raised. The odd operating process confuses our guests and confounds my 80-year old mother-in-law.
The nozzle on the Victorian faucet is much larger than it appears in this picture and looks rather like a very large lily-of-the-valley. (It is quite frankly one of the ugliest, most expensive faucets I have seen.) The end portion of the faucet arm and the nozzle are not metal; they seem to be some type of plastic or composite. The sprayer is turned on my depressing a rubber membrane on top of the nozzle. You turn it off by pressing on the membrane a second time; however, that process is not as simple as it sounds since you must hit the "sweet spot" in order to turn the spray off. I find myself just turning the faucet off and then restarting it. Although I rarely use the sprayer, the gasket between the sprayer arm and the main part of the faucet tore after only a year's worth of use. Because replacing it would require dismantling the faucet and because it did not result in any leaks, we have not replaced the gasket. Another issue I have with this product is that it does not stop the flow of water immediately after the unit is turned off; instead, the water that remains in the sprayer hose drains out. This may seem like a small annoyance, but our water company imposes a surcharge since we are in a drought-prone area so every drop counts.
I cannot recommend this faucet either for form or for functionality. You can find much better, more attractive, and more functional models on Amazon. I urge you to continue your search.
