KitchenAid KHWL160PWH Low-Profile Style Hot Water Dispenser, White Review

We have had this for about a year and are getting another for elsewhere. It looks great and gives a lot of hot water. One issue is that the water comes out rather in an irregular spray. You don't want your hand any where near it. It is not in a nice stream and I have been scalded several times when I was rushed. We have the high profile one.

I cannot rate the item that I'm currently on the page of, just ordered it. What I really wanted to do was to say thanks to the folks at amazon. This is one of many times, I could not navigate on a manufactures website to a part. On other sites, could not find the exact part I needed, color, design change, etc; Amazon to the rescue! Thank you!

Danby Portable Top-Load Washer Review

Danby Portable Top-Load Washer
Average Reviews:

I bought this washer 2 years ago and it is still working great. I had no problems installing it at all despite of the fact that I am a woman:-) It is big enough for 2 people and I had even washed blankets in it. It is easy to wheel it all over the place as long as you don't have carpets in the bathroom or the kitchen:-) I thought that it will be noisy but is actually quiet and it is easy to connect to the sink. The only problem I had (which is more of a problem with my sink faucet than with the machine) is that sometimes it leaks from the faucet but once I replaced the rubber circle inside of the connector it was great. Before the replacement I just stopped the water flow once the machine was full and washing. And I have a portable dishwasher which connects to the same sink using the same adapter so there is no need to change it if you have more than one appliance.

Franke : The Little Butler Series LB1000 Instant Hot Water Dispenser - Polished Chrome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You'd think with all the engineering capabilities that Franke has at their disposal, they coud have figured out how to make a dispenser in which the faucet was not open to the tank--they use it as a pressure valve since you can actually turn up the heat to the point that water boils in the tank. Why they don't have a regulator built in to keep that from happening and build in a different pressure valve is beyond me. As a result, our Little Butler is constantly dripping or sputtering. I've called Franke and they say, "You've got the water too hot." NOT. If I turn it down to where it doesn't drip, it's too cold to make tea. Try another brand. The Little Butler uses an inherently flawed approach. Check out the InSinkerator H-Wave or others in that series. I'm going to have to dump my Little Butler as it has become a pain in the butler to listen to the drip, drip, drip...

We installed the bar a few days ago. My husband has been installing towel racks/bars all over the house so by the time he was doing this one, he was an expert. It looked great on the wall. But once we put 2 bath towels (dry), the round part holding it to the wall started to tilt right and forward. IT CANNOT HOLD THE WEIGHT.

There's not much information on this item to be found on this product page, so in the interest of those who may be interested, here's what this product does.
If your fridge is full of spots
Don't take a pen and join the dots
Just lightly sand off all loose rust
And wipe it clean (this is a must)
When it's nicely clean and dry
Give this great spray paint a try
Put a drop cloth on the ground
And cover everything around
Shake the tin to stir it up
It'll sound like balls in a tin cup
In one direction you should spray
Holding eight inches away
It really saves a lot of time
Because there is no need to prime
And if the spots are still in view
Wait a bit then spray coat two
But that's not all - Appliance Epoxy also comes in Almond, Biscuit, Black and Stainless Steel in the spray can version, each can covering between 15 to 18 square feet. It's also available in quart tins in White only, and in Touch-Up version (looks like a bottle of White-Out) in White and Almond.
It provides a hard, moisture resistant finish for indoor metal surfaces, including fridges, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers, cabinets and towel bars, among others, but is not designed for stoves or ovens or anywhere heat is a factor.
In a nutshell, this is a DIY product that can save you having to buy new appliances when your old ones start getting rust spots, or when you just want to change your color scheme.
Rust-Oleum makes high quality DIY paint products, with the best coverage and widest range of products available.
Hint: To prevent those rust spots in the first place, use clear car wax on your appliances at least once every four months or so, and the wax will form a moisture proof barrier to stop water from penetrating down to the metal.Amanda Richards, December 8, 2007

Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub Review

Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I estimate that I have used this washer for 4 loads each week since buying from J&R in early October, 2006. I live in a studio in New York and bought this one because (1) it has a sink adapter, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model didn't seem to include and (2) at 17.5 inches wide/deep, it fit through my bathroom door, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model (at 20.5 inches wide) wouldn't.
Out of the box, you have to install an included metal pan at the bottom. Install it so that it is convex: there's a reason that the legs are so high. One of the problems I had during installation was that one of the screws holding this metal pan to the body comes very close to a clamp holding the gooseneck drain tube as it exits the body. The clamp had fallen out of position, and the end of the screw is close to where the clamp goes. I don't think I was ever in danger of puncturing the drainage tube, but it's something to watch out for.
You need a place to hang the drainage tube, between 31.5 and 40 inches high. The machine cannot fill the tub with water to a height above the maximum height of the drainage path.
On my first two loads, I made a puddle of water on the ground. There were two reasons for this: the first time, the water supply hose was not tightened sufficiently at the machine end, and water dribbled out and behind the machine until I figured out what was going on. With that tightened (I used a wrench), there was no leak. On my second load, I put in too many clothes (more about that later) and there was a water-resistant nylon jacket on top. Just before the very first spin cycle, some water was cupped on that jacket and did not drain out with the wash water. When the tub started to spin, that water came out. I never loaded that many clothes into the washer again, and haven't had any spills since.
During a normal wash cycle, the machine does the following steps three times: fill, agitate, agitate, drain, spin, drain, spin, drain, spin. The second and third iterations are called the "rinse" cycle. Often, the water out of the drain is still bubbly after the second spin. (I use a quarter capful or less of All no-fragrance 3x liquid concentrate.) So, I run another rinse cycle. If the machine detects an unbalance condition during a spin, it will stop, fill the tub with water, and agitate in an attempt to redistribute the clothes before draining and spinning again. I think the machine does this two or three times before giving up and beeping ten times to alert the user of the unbalance condition.
During the agitation process, this machine tends to intertwine long or extended parts of clothing --- shirt sleeves and socks --- into braid-like knots, which often trigger the unbalance condition during the subsequent spin. For example, when I wash four or five long-sleeved shirts together, I always have to untie and separate two or three of the shirts where the sleeves have been twisted together. I think good washing is where the wash water can touch every surface of the clothes, and being tied together prevents this. These problems probably would not happen with a front-loading washing machine.
What is the capacity of this washer? Well, I would say:
2 bath towels; or
2 pairs of jeans or pants; or
2 sweatshirts and 1 pair of sweat pants; or
4 long-sleeved oxford shirts; or
6 small-size undershirts; or
8-12 medium-size boxer underwear.
That's at the "high" water level. You may be able to load more than that, but I think the clothes won't get as clean, and the machine will probably reach more unbalance situations.
I once tried to wash a terrycloth robe. The robe fit in the tub, but the machine always got to an unbalance condition when it tried to spin. I think it's sort of like trying to run a centrifuge with only one tube. Sometimes after the spin cycle I find a sock or a shirt stretched across the middle of the tub, instead of having been thrown centrifugally against the tub walls.
Using my DSC-P71 digital camera in the multi-burst 30 frames-per-second mode and a light and a dark shirt in the washer, I estimate the initial spin at 450 rpm (light shirt passed once every 4 frames) and a final spin at 780 rpm (light shirt passed about 6.5 times in 0.5 seconds - about once every other frame). If I hang the clothes in my studio (not in the bathroom), then they dry in about one day or less, depending on the humidity. It takes much longer if I hang them in the bathroom.
Update (November 2007): This machine is still running. After a year, here are my comments:
After getting tired of the drain tube clamp falling out, I made two small wedges out of a folded-up credit card to hold the clamp in place.
I made a third spill (and this one was a big one): once, the gooseneck drain hose came apart from the U-shaped drain-pipe hook. So, now I check that connection every week or so.
I always run an extra rinse cycle (or two). If I have time, during the spin cycles, I lower the drain tube to allow more sudsy water to drain out. (This is a high-maintenance tactic, though --- it can lead to floods if you're not careful.) Some types of clothes absorb and retain more water (and detergent) than others, and my skin is better after more of the detergent is rinsed out. You can take just-washed clothes from a standard washing machine and re-rinse them here to check how much detergent is left.
Update (April 2008): In the past two months, I have had two more major spills. Both times, it seems that the water-level sensor got stuck and failed to tell the inlet valve to shut off. When this happens, the water overflows the tub and comes out the bottom of the machine. (Usually, you hear a click when the water level is reached, and then the valve shuts off; but in these cases, the first click never occurs.)
Now that I live in an apartment building with a good laundry room, I use this washer mostly for small items: socks, underwear, undershirts.
Update (April 2009): It turned out that the water-level sensor had failed. The sign of impending failure is that the sensor will sometimes fail to close the valve when set to "high", but will always close at "low" and "medium" water levels. Then, "medium" will stop working and the valve will only close when the water level is set to "low". Since the manufacturer's warranty had expired, I had the part replaced under my credit-card-based extended warranty program. Haier suggested two authorized repair operators; one of them said that they didn't service this model. The other did, and charged $85 (diagnostic service call) plus $60 (labor) plus $21.52 (part). The part had to be ordered and took about five weeks (!) to arrive.

Perfect for a small apartment or dorm room, this compact pulsator washing machine will help save on money and time wasted at the laundromat. The machine's 1-1/5-cubic-foot stainless-steel tub holds up to 6-3/5 pounds of laundry, and it connects to the kitchen sink in just five steps thanks to the included quick-connect sink adapter. Even more, the washer's smart technology and electronic controls allow for selecting the wash setting and water level to ensure a perfect load every time. Choose from three water levels based on the size of the load--save water by choosing a lower level for smaller loads. The unit's standard wash cycles include normal, heavy duty, whites, soak, and delicate; its special wash cycles include hand wash, sanitary, and unique or exclusive. The washing machine delivers a maximum spin speed of 740 rpm and its cycle status lights, estimated time-remaining display, and end-of-cycle signal provide added convenience. Other thoughtful details include a removable lint filter, a side strap for easy mobility, and an adjustable leveling leg to balance the machine if it rests on uneven ground. Fill and drain hoses come included. The washing machine measures 17-1/4 by 17-19/32 by 29-29/32 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

We had friends that were missionaries and they took this purifier through lab testing of just about every kind of water they could find. They tested filter after filter, purifier after purifier and this is the only one that would actually clean up swamp water so it could be great drinking water. We have had ours for years and am now looking at getting a whole house unit. Its the best, no kidding and we are not "sales" people, just mom and dad!

Under-Sink Water Filter - Cbf3 Undersink Water Filter Review

Under-Sink Water Filter - Cbf3 Undersink Water Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There isn't a whole to talk about considering this is just a filter. Installation is very easy and contains everything you need. It even comes with a saddle valve for tapping into the water supply, although I wouldn't recommending using that since they just become problematic over time. I used a regular ball valve taped into the water supply (although this is more work). The other nice thing is this one comes with an air purge on top to get the all of the air out of the top. The one improvement would have been to put in a small drop line off this purge valve because when you get all the air out you will know because water sprays all over the place if your not paying attention. Still it's better than not having one. It comes with the a tool to screw on the filter base and you need to make sure it's tight. I was surprised how tight I needed to get it to prevent it from leaking at that point, but not a big deal.
The only real major negative is the water tap that comes with this is just an ugly white plastic piece of crap. I had a purchased a separate water tap to go with my kitchen faucet. I wish they would sell this with out the water tap because mine went right in the trash.

Maytag Ice2O MFX2571XEM 25 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator with 4 Adjustable Spill-Catcher Shelves, Easy Access Refrigerator Drawer, Flush Exterior Ice/Water Dispenser, Rotating Faucet, Color LCD Touch Screen and LED Interior Lighting: Monochromatic Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, I should mention that we didn't have much choice about which French door refrigerator to purchase, as we needed one that would come apart enough to fit through a narrow hallway that we have. Since both the doors and the drawer fronts on this model are removable, we purchased it. There was another model I was interested in but the drawer fronts couldn't be taken off. However, we don't regret this choice at all. I LOVE (never thought I would say I love an appliance) this refrigerator! And we purchased it at an excellent price, so that makes it all the better!
There are some features that you usually see in refrigerators that are missing in this one. There is no vegetable crisper bin, no meat bin, no egg bin, and no dairy keeper. However, I found that all of those items keep very well, you just have to know where to store them. The coldest part of the refrigerator are the shelves below the ice maker and they are perfect for storing meat (about 33 degrees). Vegetables seem to keep well most anywhere, as the entire refrigeration unit is humidity controlled. I kept celery for about two weeks without it going limp or the leaves wilting. And lettuce also kept exceptionally well, even though I had sliced it with a metal knife. I know this shouldn't be done, but I needed it to be very thinly sliced to make up hero sandwiches for Christmas Eve and I could have never done it with my plastic lettuce knife. It stayed crisp and never turned brown. I keep my butter on the top shelf of the right door (the side opposite of the ice maker), as this is the warmest part of the refrigerator, about 38 degrees. I also keep my eggs (in cartons) on the same side on the top shelf. Since I have my own chickens, I have a lot of eggs and an egg bin would be useless to me anyway.
The "Easy Access" drawer is also very cold, about 35 degrees--my cold cuts keep very well in there. This is my VERY FAVORITE feature of this refrigerator! This is the first time in my 45 years of being married that my smaller items don't get "lost" somewhere in the back of the refrigerator and eventually spoil and must be thrown out. Now I can just open the drawer and see everything I have! I'm sure it saves some energy as, if I need something from there, I don't have to open up the entire refrigerator.
The right side door shelves are very deep and I can store two quart containers (even though the top door shelf is the warmest part of the refrigerator, the bottom shelf is perfectly cold enough to store milk and similar perishables), one in front of the other. However, there is not much height clearance (unless you eliminate one of the door shelves, which I rather not do) but I created an area for tall items by raising the one "mini" shelf (which fits beside the ice maker) and I can fit just about anything in that area. There is minimal storage in the door shelves in front of the ice maker but overall, this refrigerator is very roomy.
I'm wondering if the bins were eliminated to create extra useable space and reduce clutter, as this refrigerator seems to hold a lot of food for the size. We kept our old side-by-side and put it in the garage, but I hardly need to use it--and I do A LOT of cooking!
The freezer is particularly roomy for the size. The cubic feet are less in this freezer than the freezer in my old refrigerator, but it appears to me that it actually holds more. This may be because my old fridge was a side-by-side and the freezer was broken up into various narrow bins. There are two large bins and two sliding drawers on top. The top drawers appear small but I can easily fit a large ice cream container in them standing up. I'm sure one of the bins in the lower section is large enough to fit a 20+ pound turkey.
The gradual "theater style" LED lighting is lovely to look at and enables you to see inside very well.
I know ice makers can be problematic, but this one is functioning fine. It is a bit loud when it drops the ice (I have never had one that isn't) but the ice cubes are a nice size for whatever you need them for. You do need to hold your cup/container close to where the ice is dispensed as, otherwise, you could have ice landing on the floor--I don't find this to be a problem, perhaps because I've had ice makers for many years. It is nice to know that the water for both the ice and water dispenser is filtered, with a filter that is easily changed. The water is also cooled, which is a nice feature.
The only thing I'm not totally pleased with is the little "computer" panel above the dispensers, but not enough to deduct a star. I feel most of it is more like a "gimmick" to help sell the refrigerator. I do like that it displays the day, date and time. However, the timer I can hardly hear at the loudest setting and the "Nutrition Center" gives a very small selection of items to choose from. I would like it to stay lit but it shuts down automatically.
One more thing I should mention, if you are not pleased with the factory settings, you can change the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings in one degree increments--unlike the older ones that only had a slide knob with numbers that gave you no idea of the temperature. I did lower both of those by one degree (I like my food to be very cold) and nothing has frozen in the refrigerator section.
Overall, this refrigerator seems to be very well built and the sliding drawers glide very easily and appear to be very strong. I am also very pleased with the integrated handles on the drawers, as this eliminates a lot of fingerprints. I did notice that not all stainless steel is alike. Some have a somewhat golden glow and others are more gray. This refrigerator leans toward the "grayer" color but I have it in my kitchen with a warmer color stainless steel range and it looks fine but they are not next to each other. As previously mentioned, I didn't have much choice about which French door refrigerator I could choose, but it's something you may want to consider. Besides functioning very well, this is a "showpiece" in the kitchen. It looks gorgeous (much better than when we saw it in the store)!
I know this review is very long but a refrigerator is a major investment and I am trying to make it as helpful as possible. I have only had this refrigerator for about 3 weeks, so I can't comment on longevity.
However, as it stands now, I am EXTREMELY pleased with it!
Update 1-10-11: After having lowered the temperature in the refrigerated section by one degree and leaving it like that for a while, I found ice crystals in the milk I had stored under the icemaker, so it is probably best not to change the factory settings. I have restored mine to the original settings.

Just recieved this and used it for a week, this item is a lifesaver. While it is a bit short for my plates (just lean them over) the dishes come out clean, it is not that noisy, and it fits perfectly under my cabinets. I will follow up on long term issues (if any) but first impressions are outstanding. The lack of the silly window in the front like most of these have, and the fact that it is larger than most on the market allows for a bit more "wiggle room" when loading, (especially if your plates are 12" and the unit is designed for 10.5" plates) and the worries about the window leaking are gone.

There really isn't much to say about this strainer. It sits in the sink and keeps water going down the drain when you want it to, and keeps it in the sink when you want it to. We recently remodeled our kitchen and went with all Kohler parts for the sink area (sink, faucet, strainer, disposal flange, vent/dishwasher drain). This matches perfectly with the rest of our polished chrome Kohler products.
My only complaint with it, is that it does scratch rather easily. I was washing a dish with the rough side of a sponge and it scratched the finish ever so slightly. I know I shouldn't expect a polished finish to stay perfect forever, but it certainly didn't last as long as I had hoped.

I have to eat this one because Crogan will not accept a return, which by the way, I could not find anywhere in writing. For that reason alone I would not purchase any product from this supplier. I had very realistic expectations for this little heater. All I wanted was warm water to wash my hands and face in a small sink. Even with the low flow aerator this product was unacceptable and I immediately removed it. Please note that the owner of Crogan has put in a review--which is not true.

I live in a one-bedroom unit in a massive apartment building with 6 laundry machines in the basement. I did not buy this unit from Amazon but rather from a Chinese electronics dealer in my area. Haier is very popular in China and the machine came highly recommended by the dealer.
The dealer delivered it to me, set it up and away we went. I have had this unit for about a month and here are my comments:
1) The unit is quieter than a traditional laundry machine.
2) I have had no problems with balancing the machine or with water intake. It fills quickly so long as there is high water pressure. The machine balances itself by stopping and starting until the clothes are balanced.
3) The high water level can accommodate a lot of clothes. I do about 3 loads a week: shirts/undies, pants, and towels.
4)It uses a lot less soap than traditional washers (about half I would say)
5)The regular wash runs for about 45 mins which I found excessive. The quickwash runs for about 22 minutes and I find that my clothes are perfectly clean. I only use the regular wash for very soiled items.
6) My unit came with casters so I had no problem. You may also buy casters at the hardware store... the casters are fairly standard.
7) Hooking it up to the sink did require a trip to the hardware store but it was easy to find the adapter as I brought the intake hose with me.

Ideal for small apartments or homes with limited space, this portable washing machine connects to a sink in just five easy steps with the included quick-connect sink adapter. The appliance features a 1-1/2-cubic-foot tub that can accommodate loads both large and small, plus an electronic control panel with an LED display for simple operation. Choose from four wash cycles (soak, wash, rinse, or spin); four water-level settings (very low, low, medium, or high), depending on the size of the load; and six cycle programs (standard, heavy, gentle, quick wash, wash, or spin). It also provides a power "on/off" button, a "start/pause" button for starting or pausing the wash cycle, function indicator lights, a beep to signal the end of the cycle, and automatic shut-off after about 10 minutes. Leveling legs make it possible to stabilize the unit even if it sits on uneven ground, and its see-through top lid allows for checking in on the wash cycle at a glance. To ensure safety, the unit will not operate with the lid open. Accessories include a power-cord clip, a water inlet hose, a drain-hose outlet plug, a gooseneck drain hook, a drain hose clamp, a lint filter, and a water filter--both filters can be removed for cleaning as needed. Fully assembled, the CSA-approved washing machine measures 19-11/16 by 21-1/8 by 34-23/32 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

After over 10 years ownership of our Seagull IV water filter, I've just had my second e-mail customer service contact. As in our first contact, the response has been immediate (one day) and effective. The product is outstanding -- probably the best home water filter available.

Vigo VGG2514 Kitchen Sink bottom Grid 24" x 14" Review

This is a nice grid - but it isn't 14 x 24. It is closer to 15 x 25. I can only give it 3 stars because I now have to return it because it doesn't fit our sink (half an inch can make all the difference).
